Inspire Me Forever

A record of everything and anything that inspires me

Colour me Scarlett

It’s been a while. What can I say, I have been busy with my new fabulous life in Australia…O.k not so much (and not so disgustingly egotistical of me either).

As I was coming home, I of course perused around in duty free. I came across this charming little bottle. I am in love with this perfume!

I know I am a sucker for packaging but I swear the scent is so light and airy, fresh and dewy I can’t resist. The retail price in duty free was about $95 US. I was able to get it online at for $60! Pretty sweet deal.

Check out this charming and slightly sexy commercial for Scarlett

Cute, no? Updates will come when I receive my package!

New Home, New Inspirations!

I have made it finally to sunny Australia! O.k maybe not so sunny at this point. My new home is trendster city Melbourne. The city is a lot like home-vibrant, exciting and multicultural.

The fashion here is very creative and liberal. Quite unlike that of home. I feel like I can throw on just about anything and I won’t be getting stares on the public transport or while I walk down the street. I actually dared to wear a full length jumpsuit the other day and did not feel self-conscious in the least! I love that about this city. I love that people are faily non-judgemental and are free to express themselves any way they like. I dare say, I love this city.

Despite a drama and stressed filled first week here I find myself settling into my new home well enough. I have the support of some amazing friends here and abroad who are making my transition smooth. So far I have not had any major breakdowns except when my mother left and just now when I saw a photo of her. They were only short periods of tearful homesickness but I can deal with that I think.

I am currently staying in residence which is a big step down from my luxurious room at home which I had everything I wanted and privacy to boot. I find it hard to bond with my roomates. I say that it is because they are all in the same programs as one another so have had time to bond and see each other in class everyday, but part of me is not so sure. I can be quite the anti social loner sometimes. Perhaps I am not engaging enough? I suppose I can try harder. But I don’t really feel like it.

I start school tomorrow and I am nervous and excited. I can’t wait to see what this year has to bring for me. I can say what I hope will happen, but really does it matter? I am here to grow and am open to every experience that comes my way. I have already put myself in situations that I might not have normally. I have a long way to go, but I can only put myself out there and hope for the best. I must remind myself that I am trying to make the most of this year and that I should open myself to new experiences! Just say yes!

Furrrrrrrrrfect Fashion!

O.k I know fur is so wrong, but faux fur can be so right, right? What about vintage fur? Is that so wrong? I mean it is DEFINITELY better than going out and buying a new fur item. A gently used fur item is getting a second life so to speak.

Many people have probably already spotted the new fall/winter trend. The LOVELY new trend of fur hats, Russian Communist-esq. I know that PETA fans will not love this trend, but there are options for even the most devoted animal lover. Faux fur of course. And as I mentioned before, vintage fur is another option. See below for the loveliness.

And see this lovely post about this lovely trend!

Today was a shitacular day in general. I work at a popular North American coffee house. I refrain from using the name just in case. Not that I am going to write anything particularly incriminating about this coffee house. In fact, I must admit that this coffee house treats their employees exceptionally well! Doubly in fact, I had to say that I really enjoy working at this coffee house. Too bad I’m not using their name-free advertising for them!

Anyways, like any new job there is a lot to learn. There is definitely a plethora of things to remember at my job. All the drinks, how to make the drinks, abbreviations for drinks etc…Then there is the random snarky customer who thinks that they are god’s gift to this freakin’ earth. Today I encountered one such customer. He barked that he knew exactly how his drink was made b/c he has an espresso machine at home and why wasn’t my machine doing what his machine was doing? Well you know what buddy? you can go screw yourself.

Of course I didn’t say that to him. What I did say was, “I’m new”. Smiled and continued making the drink exactly as I was b/c I was doing it correctly. I strongly dislike this customer. He is a regular. I will remember to avoid him next time.

Other negatives today: I cut myself, bruised myself, burned myself, had about 4 people barking at me the entire day, consumed about 500 or so calories in drinks which I devotedly swore I would not do today. The cherry on top-I have to work tomorrow at 5 am, it is now 11:30pm-In short, I am royally fucked.

Hmm I just had a strange thought. I use to read Elyse Sewell’s livejournal blog. Her blog was incredibly witty and entertaining to read. She had a flare for sarcasm and irony. Loved her style of writing. I haven’t read her blog in years. I wonder if it’s still up and running. (If you don’t know who Elyse Sewell is, she was the runner up winner on ANTM. That’s right, I watch that shit.)

Well I just googled her blog and it seems she has stopped writing since July 2009. Nonetheless, her blog was a hilarious account of the modeling world from the perspective of probably one of the most educated models working! I wonder what happened to her…

Klimt + Floge Sitting in a Tree…

A long while ago I read a novel called The Painted Kiss by Elizabeth Hickey. I mainly read the novel because I was intrigued that the story was about the artist Gustav Klimt and I wanted to know more about him. The novel is inspired by his real life and the people he knew, mainly a woman named Emilie Floge. Briefly, the novel is about the potentially romantic relationship that Gustav Klimt had with Emilie Floge. In reality, no one really knows if they had a romantic relationship or not but in my own opinion, something was there. Whether it was one sided (Emilie’s side) or not there was definitely something.

After reading this novel I was even more obsessed with not Klimt but Emilie Floge. The way Hickey portrayed her was endearing and hopeful. I googled Emilie’s name and was pleasantly surprised to discover that she was a creative and vibrant designer. I was going to type amateur, but I really don’t think so. Some of her designs were so ahead of her time. The prints that she used in her creations are those that could easily fit into today’s fashions. In fact, I wouldn’t mind donning some of her designs today.

If you go here you’ll see more pics and some designs by Emilie. Truly amazing! I couldn’t find many pics of her designs anymore. I’m not sure where I saw them last, but they’re out there!

Inspiration Abounds!

Hello Blogging World!

I should start off by saying that I am creating this blog purely for selfish reasons. I routinely come across things in my life that I get passionate about. As a result, I become quite obsessed about the said things and accumulate a lot of useless knowledge. However, I usually tend to forget many of these interesting things as well. So, this blog will serve as an electronic record of my current obsessions.

For my first post, I would like to comment on a model named Carmen Dell’Orefice. This exquisite woman is truly one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Truth be told, my first impression of her was that she reminded me of a lavish Cruella Deville. You know from 101 Dalmations! Look at her below in all her glory!!!

A young Carmen

Carmen grew up poor to divorced parents. She was one of the youngest to appear on the cover of Vogue at the age of 15. She is currently 79 years old. Let me repeat, 79 YEARS OLD! My god, if I look like this at 79 I would die a happy woman.

Another new and inspirational model I learned about today (both of these ladies I discovered whilst watching the beloved Fashion Television) is Lindsey Wixson. I believe she is currently 16 years old and she is predicted to be the next big thing in the modeling world. Like almost every other supermodel’s back story, model agencies were less than enthused with her. It wasn’t until Lindsey posted a video of herself online that her career began. I’m not sure who, but someone obviously influential came across her and put her right smack into Intalian Vogue. Talk about a horseshoe up one’s butt?

Anyways, I think she is beautiful. Her gap tooth is just perfect and I can’t imagine how anyone could have thought that she was not fit to model. They were out of their minds. I’m still a little less thrilled that she is still the stereotypical waif like as I am very much a proponent of the Christina Hendriks physique, but nonetheless Lindsey is still charming and has a great career ahead of her. Photos for your viewing pleasure…

I have a strange urge to continue blogging about other inspiration things I have come across today, mainly Mick Jagger’s daughter Georgia May Jagger, but I think obsessing over 2 models is enough for today. This isn’t a catalogue for models I swear!
